One of the animals living on the earth has also come to the endangered species list and that is Kuroiwa’s Ground Gecko which is fighting the battle of its survival. This is a type of lizard that is found in different islands of Japan and depending on the islands they live on determines their color, size, crust, etc. The Kuroiwa’s Ground Gecko was included in the endangered species list taking into account it is rapidly vanishing from the islands of Japan. There are different reasons that are playing their roles in them getting out of the earth. There are global efforts underway taking such species into account.

While talking about the Kuroiwa’s Ground Gecko, this reptile has the characteristics same as that of a lizard but does possess some varying characteristics. Some of the reasons why the number of these animals is decreasing include the human lust to clear the jungles and the inhabitants of such animals. Moreover, these are encountering consistent attacks by the human beings. As the population of the country is spreading and more and more need for the clear land is popping out, these species are getting more endangered as to their existence.

As to the foods taken in by the Kuroiwa’s Ground Gecko, there are insects and worms attacked by them. They eat spiders as well. This is what nothing getting them attacked for. The average size of any Kuroiwa’s Ground Gecko can be observed to be between 14 to 19 centimeters. They are quite different from other geckos in respect of their living on the earth as they do not have conventional toes to climb up a tree. It implies that they are unable to reach the top of any tree thus letting them have their enjoyment on the earth roaming here and there on the islands.

The Amami islands are the sole places where you can find the Kuroiwa’s Ground Geckos within the Tokunoshima and the Okinawa islands. There is no place on the earth where you can find these species. This is the sole reason why they are being given priority now so that they do not lose the existence.

Elephant Therapy for Autistic Children Draw Rave Reviews

Chang is the Thai word for elephant, and Thailand has a new project involving the use of animals for kids. Kids with autism use elephants for therapy and play time has brought about amazing changes in the lives of several autistic children.

Using gentle elephants, autistic children are allowed to play with the animals, including hugging and riding on their backs. The children are also taught how to take care of the animals by bathing and feeding them.

Animals have long since been used for therapy like dogs, cats, dolphins, and horses. Animals have a unique ability to be accepting regardless of anything else but trust. It recognizes no physical flaw; passing no judgment except upon initial contact when trust has not yet been developed; and if the animal is well trained, they have an intrinsic impulse to protect people they feel are in danger.

Although elephant therapy is a relatively new approach with autistic children, the initial results are extremely encouraging. The idea was the brain child of the head of occupational therapy in Chaing Mai University in northern Thailand, Nuntanee Satiansukpong. According to her, the sensory-rich skills of elephants allow them to safely interact with humans. Keep in mind that in Thailand, elephants are used as more than just large animals. They are almost the equivalent to a farm horse, and have been used to transport people around. Of course, this does not happen as often anymore but Thais are very much at home with these large animals.

The elephant therapy works with a 6 key strategy and is supervised by the Thai Elephant Conservation Center, which is run by the government. There are activities that work around specific sensory skills, including the care of animals. The children are taught how to feed the animals starting from the point of having to buy the food with real money. If their choice of food is rejected by the animal, they will have to return to the place where they bought the food and exchange it for another. Other activities are bathing, playing games, and learning art.
